![]() New Camp Hiawatha Flagpole Staff at Camp Hiawatha old the American flag during a dedication ceremony. The new flagpole was dedicated to the memory of Ralph Koehler, an Eagle Scout from Troop 353 who died while serving in the U.S. Navy. The flagpole was made possible by a gift from the Koehler family and the Sault Ste. Marie Rotary Club. June 2011 ![]() Cub Day Camp Cub Day Camps are being held throughout the Hiawathaland Council. The theme is "Under Construction". This Scout is building a "bridge" to walk over in an obstacle course at the day camp in Red Buck District. Check out more photos on our Facebook page. April 2011 ![]() OA Section Conclave Arrowmen from Ag-Im Lodge attended the OA Section Conclave at Camp Gerber in lower Michigan. Chris was re-elected Section Chief. Congratulations! October 2010 ![]() Bobcat Trail A Cub Scout plants a seedling at Camp Hiawatha at the Bobcat Trail in October. The event encourages Cub Scouting and exposes families to Camp Hiawatha. February 2010 ![]() Winter Fun Pictured above is Jeremy, Jacob, Kyle, and Josh sledding down Camp Hiawatha's fire ring. The Order of the Arrow Winter Fun Weekend was held in February. Scouts had fun snowshoeing through camp along with drinking hot chocolate and playing cards with friends. January 2010 ![]() Thank You Denise! Over 60 of Denise Dawydko's Scouting friends gathered to wish her well as she retired after 25 years of sevice to youth. Scouters across the Upper Peninsula from Pickford to Ontonagon and Calumet to Iron Mountain to Escanaba gathered at the First Methodist Church in Marquette to show their appreciation for her enthusiastic and cheerful service and friendship. She received tributes that expressed that she was much more than the Trading Post manager, she was a mentor, a cheerleader, a comforter, and a friend to all she talked with. Denise was presented with a charm bracelet and many other mementos. Thanks to Barb Dupras and the Mighty, Mighty Hiawathaland Women who planned and put on the event. December 2009 ![]() Top Sellers Enjoy NMU Hockey Top popcorn salesmen in the Pere Marquette District were invited by Dr. Les Wong to join him in his box for the NMU-University of Nebraska-Omaha hockey game. The Scouts were really excited about the opportunity and the teams did their part as the Wildcats overcame being down 2 goals in the first period to winning 6-3. July 2008 ![]() Camp Hiawatha Camp Hiawatha Boy Scout Camp began its 41st season of operation on July 6th. At the opening ceremony, Major Dave Goodwin (right) presented a flag which had flown in Iraq to camp director Shaun Clark. Major Goodwin is an Eagle Scout from Marquette and served several years on the staff at Camp Hiawatha in the early 1980s. He recently returned from Iraq where he served as the operations officer for the 35th Engineer Brigade of the Missouri National Guard. March 2008 ![]() Blue and Gold Banquet Here's a unique way of serving spaghetti at a Blue and Gold Banquet. Cub Scouts at Pack 533 in Florence, Wis., and their parents opted not to use plates for their spaghetti dinner. It reminds you of that great campfire song, "On Top of Spaghetti" It rolled off the table and onto the floor, And then my poor meatball rolled out of the door. February 2008 ![]() The Wolverine Patrol in Troop 411 won the Gerber Trophy at the Red Buck District Klondike in January. The Klondike had the theme "Bigfoot - Searching for Sasquash. Events included the Bigfoot "shoe" race, Bigfoot log toss, mapping signs of Bigfoot and trapping Bigfoot with knots and lashings. The event was organized by the Order of the Axe. January 2008 ![]() Josh Hanson, a Webelos Scout from Pack 510 in Iron Mountain, sold $4,000 of popcorn. Wonder how much popcorn that is? The photo shows Josh with his sales. |
