2013 National Scout Jamboree

The Boy Scout National Jamboree is a national encampment that brings together 40,000 Scouts and leaders. The 2013 will be held at a new location, The Summit Bechtel Family National Scouting Reserve in West  Virginia. That is what we know at this time except that it will cost approximately $1,800, the length of the tour and the Jamboree will be about 16 days, and it will be one of the greatest experiences of your life.

DATES: The Jamboree will be July 15 - 24, 2013.

TOUR PLANS: To be decided.

WHO MAY GO: In the past, any Boy Scout who has completed the sixth grade or will be at least 12 years of age and a First Class Scout by July 1 of the Jamboree year,  but not have reached his 18th birthday by the end of the Jamboree could attend as a youth participant. His Scoutmaster and the council jamboree committee must approve the Scout. He must complete a pre-jamboree training experience and meet medical requirements.  These will probably be the same requirements in 2013.

ORGANIZATION: We hope to have 2 troops of 36 Scouts each plus 4 leaders.  If we are not allocated 2 troops, we will probably have one Jamboree Troop and one touring troop, but it is anticipated there will be two troops.

COST: $1,800 to $2,000. A deposit of $200 is required to hold your spot.  The payment schedule will be approximately spread over the time until the Jamboree, but you are encouraged to sign up early and make payments.  If you don’t make the payment schedule, you could lose your spot on the roster.
FEE INCLUDES: The jamboree fee includes all transportation, tours, admission fees, meals, lodging, patrol and troop equipment, and insurance. Your fee also covers the training camp before the jamboree. Additional expense will be your personal equipment, uniforms, and spending money.

REFUND POLICY: If you sign up for the jamboree and then find that you cannot attend, you will receive a full refund from the Hiawathaland Council only if there is an alternate to take your place. In the event there is no alternate, a partial refund will be made, you will be refunded fees you have paid to date, less any expenses related to contractual agreements made on your behalf.  Note that most of costs are incurred when you sign up.

TO APPLY: Complete the council application to get on the roster or waiting list.  After the national council sets up its website, an applications must be submitted on line.

JAMBOREE STAFF: Youth (16 years old by  the beginning of the Jamboree) and adults can apply for Jamboree Staff positions on line, probably beginning May, 2011.  Some staff positions will not require the person be present the entire Jamboree.
