BSA Online Learning Center Youth Protection
The Boy Scouts of America has developed several programs to assist children, parents and all adult volunteers who are interested in the health and safety of youth and participants, to aid in the detection and prevention of child abuse. This comprehensive youth protection program formally began in 1988.

Parent's Guide
"How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse" is a pull-out booklet in the front of each handbook. As part of joining a pack or troop, the boy and his parent or guardian must read and discuss the exercises.

Tour Permit

The award winning video "It Happened to Me" is designed for Cub Scouts, boys ages 6-10, to view with their parents or guardians. The video presents common situations in which sexual abuse could occur. It discuses how child molesters often resort to tricks for gaining access to children. It  stresses safety measures, who to tell, and emphasizes that the molester is at fault not the child.

"A Time to Tell" , another award winning video, is designed for Boy Scouts ages 11 and older. It shows how adolescents might be at risk of sexual abuse through common situations. It emphasizes the three R's: recognize, resist and report.

"Power Pack Pals " are two different comic books that can be used as a resource by children. One concerns being safe on the internet, and the other deals with techniques to discourage bullying. Copies are available at the Council Service Center.

Guide to Safe Scouting is a book that prepares adult leaders to conduct Scouting activities in a safe and prudent manner. It lists the current policies and procedures. It may be purchased at the Council Service Center or on the Internet.
