The package provides the district training committee with tools to achieve 100 percent trained unit volunteers. It begins with the existing Fast Start training, continues through New Leader Essentials, and is followed by Leader Specific training for each adult's role in the unit. What does this mean to me? What it means to you, the leader, is that you can take any training in any district when it is offered. Obviously the training within your district allows you to meet other leaders and trainers with in your own district, but if the date conflicts with your personal schedule it gives you the flexibility to go to another district's training. We want you to get trained! Why should I go to training? Robert Baden-Powell, founder of Boy Scouts, stated in 1922, “Don’t be content with the what, but get to know the why and the how.” Every boy deserves a trained leader. Trained leaders provide a quality, fun-filled program for boys. When leaders understand the whys and hows of Scouting, they are more effective in their roles. Trained leaders know how to use the available resources to provide an exciting and worthwhile program for the boys. Trained leaders also have confidence in carrying out their roles and responsibilities. With a trained leader the program delivered to the Scout is consistent and awesome and that keeps Scouts in Scouting longer! What training do I need? As you read about your position and the training that is required, keep in mind that training is synonymous with learning. Learning is an on going journey throughout our lifetime. No one can ever learn too much, just as no one can listen too much. Cub Scout Leaders are considered trained when they have completed, Fast Start for their position, New Leader Essentials and the Cub Scout Leader Specific training for their position. When your position changes you will need to take the training associated with your new position. Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters are considered trained when they have completed Fast Start, New Leader Essentials, Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training, and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills. Troop Committee Members are considered trained when they have completed Fast Start, New Leader Essentials and the Troop Committee Challenge as their Leader Specific training. Venturing Crew Advisors, Assistant Advisors, and Crew Committee Members are considered trained when they have completed Fast Start, New Leader Essentials and Venturing Leader Specific Training. |
